Williams Syndrome. I had never heard of this until my son was at nursery with a little girl called Mabel who has the condition. I remember those early days and months being tough for her and her family. But this little girl made my day every time I saw her. A smile for everyone, lighting up the room. I'm so happy to see watch her bloom into the beautiful teenager that she has become. She's still smiling!
People with Williams syndrome have developmental delays, and learning disabilities, although, just like Mabel, they are highly sociable and have an affinity with music.
So today is Williams Syndrome awareness day, and I wanted to let you all know a little bit about it. But why today? Because the condition is caused by a deletion mutation on chromosome 7 q11 23. (7th November 2023).
