Rare Disease Day 2023. #showyourstripes !

One in seventeen of us have a rare disease. Not so rare afterall.

A recent survey of physicians by Medscape Education showed that two-thirds considered rare diseases to be 50 to 500 times rarer compared with standard EU or US definitions. Worryingly, over half (59%) said they had never, or rarely (once or twice a year), seen patients with a rare condition. Based on prevalence estimates, they should see rare diseases on a weekly basis. This demonstrates a gap in medical education that needs addressing to improve the patient experience for those living with rare diseases.

How can we all contribute to raising awareness of rare diseases within the medical profession and society?
