John is an old school friend of mine. In 2017 he was diagnosed with an aggressive spindle cell sarcoma in his maxillary sinus. Since his diagnosis, he has undergone many surgeries and radiotherapy. This type of cancer is so rare, that he was unable to find any real information or statistics about it. The collateral damage of facing a diagnosis like this is massive, both to him, his family and his friends. The rarity of this cancer means that there are very few other sufferers around to find any support from. So, he set about writing his inspirational and witty account of his journey so far. This is about giving something back to those who have cared for him over the last two years and also a cathartic approach to dealing with each day as it comes. All of us are affected by cancer. Either personally, within our families, our friends, our work colleagues, or even acquaintances. 'Face Cancer', was launched on the 3rd May, 2019 at HSBC headquarters in London and all proceeds are going to Macmillan Cancer support, Cancer Research UK and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
I wish John every success, not only with his book, which has already sold out on Amazon, but also with his continued recovery.
