Global disproportionate trust in vaccines

Vaccine hesitancy has been identified by the WHO as one of the top 10 threats to global health. Trust in vaccine safety is a huge contributor to the decrease in vaccine uptake. Recent results from the Wellcome Trust Global Monitoring survey report that trust in vaccines is lower in high-income regions. In Western Europe, only 59% of the population consider vaccines safe. In low-income regions, the proportion of people who agree that vaccines are safe tends to be over 80%. One has to question whether this vast difference in the level of trust in vaccines is due to the access and availability of global press and social media.
