Another very informative, well organised and friendly 5-day EMWA conference. This year the summer conference was held in Vienna, Austria and offered 52 half day or full day EPDP training workshops, a one-day symposium, expert seminars, a freelance business forum, networking opportunities, poster presentations and of course evening social events.
From my personal perspective as a relative newbie to EMWA, this is a great way to improve my credibility as a medical writer by continuing my professional development and acquiring certificates for both my current competencies and newly acquired skills. It’s a great way to make new business contacts and to meet up with old contacts, many of whom I now consider friends. The EPDP training is exceptional. The pharmaceutical environment is a dynamic one and guidelines move on all the time. It is essential for the success of my business, that I keep pace with these changes.
This conference offers something for everyone, from the person considering medical writing as a career, to the experts with many years of experience. One big positive from this environment is that everyone shares information, expert or not, we all learn from and support each other. I have never been to a conference where the atmosphere is so open, without a sniff of snobbery or hierarchy.
Vienna is regarded as the City of Music, which made it a great place for downtime. The large video screen on the outside of the opera house means that one can sit outside and watch ballet, or opera for free. The Spanish Riding School, for all horse lovers, is a must. There was so much in this wonderful city, that I could have stayed another week.
A big thank you to all involved at EMWA, especially to the staff of the organising team, making another hugely successful conference. See you in Malmo!
